Normally when we drive eastward, we keep going for a while, and so it's easy to forget about the places that are just slightly out of town. This time we successfully counteracted that tendency, and took a short Sunday trip to the San Gabriel Valley (Monterey park, specifically).
We had an entirely vegetarian Chinese feast at Happy Family, ate Fluff Ice, and tried but failed to get foot massages (apparently you need to make an appointment for that kind of thing). If you tend towards over-consumption, just don't even go into Daiso. Their extreme array of cute and cheap foreign-made goods were tempting even for us, who are normally pretty good at not-shopping (admittedly, we bought a few things).
