DTLA: Flower District

by Gabrielle Antonette and Carrie Nusbaum

One of the best parts of living in a huge city like LA is having access to the expansive commercial districts. The flower district is, perhaps naturally, one of the highlights. If you don't spend much time downtown, it's easy to forget about. It's not hard to get there (it occupies many blocks around 8th/San Pedro St), but it isn't exactly on the way to anything either. If you're looking for a little bit of color, or--you know--you actually want to buy flowers, it's a great place to stroll around for a couple of hours.

We went on a recent Sunday morning to check out Poppy + Rose. It's a cute and casual place right in the heart of the district. We suggest keeping it simple, and just grabbing a coffee and a pastry before you get to wandering, if you'd like to check it out. Note: the flower district isn't technically open on Sundays, but there were more than a handful of shops open when we were there. It might actually be an ideal time to go. You can get the gist without all of the chaos...unless, of course, chaos is something you're into. Also note: some of the shops have no-photo policies that they enforce. So watch out for that.
